Clean, comfy, close
Best Western Plus Westgate Inn & SuitesEverything about this place was great, location is close to the Battleship NC, as well as many dining options. The room was clean, beds comfortable, and the breakfast was everything we needed to start our day. Great stay.
Expensive but worth it
Hotel Zena, a Viceroy Urban RetreatThis place is 10 minutes walk to the White House, and you have a fair chance of street parking on the weekend. Otherwise the valet garage is $50 a day. Room was clean and didn't smell, beds were ok, sheets were clean. No breakfast and for our stay the in-room coffee was only decaf, no regular. I asked, but there's a Wawa across the street that has good coffee and breakfast options, as well as a CVS.
Not what I expected
Best Western Plus Santee InnPreviously stayed at the BW+ in Westgate NC near the Battleship NC, which was really nice and super clean. This place is a much older property that was updated with new flooring and paint, but bathroom was not updated, and the place had that funky old hotel smell. I feel it was overpriced by about 30% compared to other places. The breakfast was good, and all the rooms are ground floor with outside doors, so great for pets. There's also a bunch of stray cats behind the 200 building, which may distract your dog from doing their business in the designated pet relief area.
Oh, the smell
Sleep Inn & SuitesSo, the room itself was good, huge even, with two queens and a pull out sofa, easily accommodate 6 people and your pet. But there are obviously long-term residents at this hotel that regularly cook in the rooms, and the whole 3rd floor smells like a restaurant. I even saw someone carrying a hot plate to their room. Another group likes to gather out back, play music drink and smoke whatever. Didn't feel unsafe, and was ok for a night if you've got a big group. Mexican restaurant up the hill was great.
