- Angela kApr 4, 2024Pets only allowed on outdoor patio -- which was CLOSED!
We were visiting the area early April and was excited to try this place because it was said it was a pet-friendly restaurant. So we made dinner reservations via Open Table and added notes that we had a dog. But when we arrived we were told their patio was closed and not allowed to eat inside unless we had a service dog. Was disappointed we were not told before we got there. Highly recommend to call any restaurant in this Dana Point harbor area prior to arrival instead of online reservations. We scrambled to a few other restaurants in the area which also had closed patios due to weather or lack of staffing. PS. Many places did not have outdoor heaters too.

The food was just ok. Not a lot of room for a large dog. I had my 120 lb. Black Russian Terrier under the table (there were 4 of us). There wasn’t a lot of room
under there and it was too hot for him. The waitress didn’t offer me any water for him, but she was a little frazzled. I did bring him outside and gave him my water that they serve in a plastic cup. You do have to park far away, but the walk was nice. I wouldn’t go back. - BobSep 8, 2020If you love your dog, avoid this restaurant
After the quarter mile (,4 km) walk down the pier to reach the restaurant (beware, do not walk through the Fisherman's Village Mall in the shade as the end is blocked off so continuing to Harpoon Harry's is impossible. The Village management has obviously eaten at the restaurant and seeks to save tourists from the tragedy of visiting Harpoon Harry's) guests are greeting with the deafening sound of air hockey players, exploding video game sound tracks, and a variety of juvenile joys that diners must walk through like a Roman army punishment gauntlet before enjoying abuse at the bar as the 'seat yourself' sign is obviously a vintage antique. If you finally win a table in the 'run for it' race that passes as seating, expect the worst service in the Western Hemisphere. In essence, the camp guard personality staff will require you to put your feet on your dog to insure he doesn't move or make a sound during the entire terrible experience. 'Pet friendly' is a sad, sad and not-very-funny joke. The food is mediocre at best and the 'view' that is billed as 'scenic' is difficult to enjoy even if you knocked down several other people to secure a table (we did not, but the temptation was strong), it's impossible to call a restaurant 'scenic' when the atmosphere resembles a down-market Chucky Cheese with surly service. Do not under any circumstances consider this restaurant.

Food was great and reasonable prices. Sierra was given water as soon as we sat down. Staff was friendly and service was fast. Great experience on the water and will be back.

My doggo and I sat near the bar for a lovely sunset. They gave him water right away and several people came over to visit my pooch. Will go again.
- AndiMore than a year agoNot impressed
We went because it was dog friendly. My dog was forced to stay under the table. It was very dirty. Bottle caps, food and who knows what else. The food was not good the drinks bad and the service slow and our order incorrect. I will never go back there again.
- RachelMore than a year agoNo service
Just left there after sitting for ten minutes having not been greeted by anyone given menues or anything while I watched the three tables around us that sat just before and just after us get drinks and have their order taken. I guess they rely on tourists who don’t care and prob won’t be back anyway forget about locals
- LauraMore than a year agoGreat place for lunch.
Great food. Outdoor seating is right on the water. Very comfortable, even on a 90 degree day.

I typically don't write reviews but I had to counteract the stupidity of the details of the 1 star rating. This restaurant is great! Excellent food and atmosphere! All 6 or 7 times I've gone we see dolphins right from our table. Try the clam strip basket! The strips are large with lots of meat compared to other places. Definitely a recommended place!
Ps: by law a restaurant is not allowed to have an animal come in contact with a surface where food is served. It's in benefit of the restaurant patron's health. Don't bring your dog out if you can't comprehend this. They were probably "rude" because she was rude after learning she couldn't have her dog near your food and mine. - Don & JulieMore than a year agoGreat Place
Walked right in with our dog, got a table by the water and had a Great meal.
- SandyMore than a year agoNot that dog friendly ...
We chose this restaurant because we heard it was dog friendly. We were allowed to take our Shih Tzu in, were seated on the outside deck at a picnic table. The place is filthy, the floor is dirty concrete and the waitress would not allow me to have my Shih Tzu sit next to me on the bench, she said the dog had to remain on the floor underneath the table. The restaurant was busy, it was noisy and my dog was too scared to go under the table. I put her on my lap and was told she still had to be placed underneath the table. We left without ordering food. The server girl was not friendly nor did she care whether my dog was happy or not. Will not return.

We come here often and bring our dog. The wait staff is great, with her and the customers. Food is good. Atmosphere is casual, friendly and relaxing.
