The good: for me it's the only convenient option; the owners are by and large great, never had a negative experience. Best way I can get her some good exercise during the week. The location and setting we like.
The not so good: As pointed out, it's all loose gravel and dusty rock and nothing else. No area of respite from that and also no shade most of the area most of the day. It eventually gets some from the nearby buildings but there is no shade function in the run itself. If your dog likes to socialize and tumble around she'll need a bath after 2 or 3 visits, depending on them and you. Kind of a drag that if there's any reason we need her reasonably clean that day we can't visit.
It's sort of typical NYC/Brooklyn. It's ours, and it's a mess but that keeps the more delicate owners away : ) (Just kidding)

This isn’t a dog park, it’s more of a run, but it offers space for romping and chasing down balls. There is water (they turn it off in winter, so bring your own), garbage bin for bagged waste, and people often bring extra bags for communal use (bring your own anyway, just in case).
It’s not beautiful, but it does the job. There is a regular crowd, and most of the humans know their dogs and supervise their play. An advantage to the smaller size of this run is that if something does arise between some of the dogs, the owners can get to them/separate them right away (we’ve been going all summer, almost every day, and only seen two instances needing intervention, but both times, intervention was quick).
The run is sandwiched between basketball courts, handball courts and a skate park, so there is some ball and skate noise, but it’s far, far quieter than some of the runs that are flanked by 278 or that are situated beneath or adjacent to bridges (my dog can’t relax and play at hillside or at brooklyn bridge park b/c of the traffic noise, but she does fine at this run).
We hear there are plans to renovate, adding more shade features and boulders to make games of chance more interesting- that’ll be cool. Ur in the meantime, this run is a great neighborhood go-to.

This is not a dog park, but a dog run. For what it is, it’s great. Dog owners and dogs are usually very friendly. Lots of “regulars” with a great community feel. I recommend going on Sunday before the farmers market just a block away!

Don't waste your time coming to this dog park. It is very tiny, all gravel and nothing to it.
